Potala Palace

First, you must visit Potala Palace, the tallest, largest, and most well-preserved ancient palace in the world. At first look, Potala Palace looks like a large house, divided into white and red parts and it has 9 floors. Inside the place, there are special places like the “snow city” at the front of the Palace and the “snow Prison” area which is a hidden area in the Palace.

Jokhang Temple

One of the must-visit attractions in Lhasa is Jokhang Temple.  When you step inside, you’ll find colorful murals on the walls showing stories from Buddhist teachings. There are also statues of important figures from Tibetan Buddhism, creating a peaceful and sacred atmosphere.

One of the temple’s most precious treasures is the Jowo Shakyamuni statue, which many people believe holds special blessings. People come from far and wide to pay their respects to this statue.

As you wander through the temple, you’ll discover different prayer halls representing various Buddhist traditions. The air is filled with the soothing scent of incense, adding to the spiritual feeling of the place.

Outside, Barkhor Street surrounds the temple, bustling with vendors selling traditional Tibetan items like prayer flags and handmade crafts. You can also join the locals in walking around the temple in a ritual called kora, which is a beautiful way to experience Tibetan culture and faith.

Visiting Jokhang Temple is like stepping into a living piece of Tibetan history and spirituality. It’s a place where ancient traditions continue to thrive and inspire visitors from all over the world.

Manasarovar Lake

Manasarovar Lake, also known as Mapham Yumtso or Victorious Lake in Tibet, is one of the three sacred lakes in Tibet, and it has an elevation of about 45901 meters above sea level. Its sapphire-blue waters, sandy shores, and the backdrop of snow-capped mountains make Manasarovar immediately captivating, especially when compared to the rugged landscape of Mount Kailash.

It is an exceptional lake for people who follow Buddhism, Hinduism, and Jainism. People believe that if you have a bath or drink the water of the lake, it will wash away all of your sins.

According to Hinduism, the lake was first imagined by God Brahma and then it appeared on Earth. That is the reason why it’s called Manasarovar, in the ancient Sanskrit language “Mansa” means mind, and “Sarovaram” means lake. Manasovar Lake is a must-visit in Tibet in June.
