Getting in and out of Chengdu by air
Chengdu Shuangliu Airport
Located in Shuangliu county, roughly 16 kilometers (10 miles) from downtown Chengdu, the Chengdu Shuangliu Airport is the largest and busiest airline hub in southwest China, and the the only airport in Chengdu.
Chengdu Shuangliu Airport provides flight service to 69 domestic locations, such as Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Qingdao, Nanjing, Xian, and Lhasa, and 21 international destinations, including Tokyo, Osaka, Seoul, Bangkok, Singapore, Kuala Lumpur and Kathmandu.
There are daily flights to Xining (the capital of Qinghai) and flights to Kunming (the capital of Yunnan province) depart regularly and only take an hour. The flight from Chengdu to Lhasa (the capital of Tibet) is only two hours, and it only takes 40 minutes to reach Sichuan's famous scenic Jiuzhaigou Valley by air.
Starting at 5:00am every morning at the CAAC (Civil Aviation Administration of China) office, next to Minshan Hotel, shuttle buses run every 20 minutes from the airport to the city center - tickets are 10RMB and the whole trip takes about 35 minutes. Taxis are readily available at the taxi line and the fare should be between 40RMB and 80RMB, depending on where you go in the city.
