Sanxingdui Museum – a true archaeological wonder

Sanxingdui Museum, located in Nanxing town, Guanghan city in Sichuan province, where the Yazi River and Mamu River meet. Among many museums in Sichuan, Sanxingdui Museum features the times of Neolithic, Shang and Zhou periods, representing a splendid culture of ancient Shu. If you travel to Sichuan, you can’t miss it if you want to know the origin of the ancient Sichuan.

Sanxingdui Museum is the largest and oldest Shu cultural relic among the museums in Sichuan province and there are a large number of valuable historical artifacts preserved in the museum. These historical artifacts can be a true wonder of archeological study. Sanxingdui Museum belongs to Sanxingdui Relic, northeast at the corner of relic site. Guanghan city is a historic and cultural city, 38 km. (24 mi.) south of Chengdu (Sichuan’s provincial capital) and 26 km. (16 mi.) northern from Deyang. Sanxingdui Museum ranks as a large-scale and modern theme relic museum. The museum was set up in 1992 and opened to public in October in 1997.

Sanxingdui Museum covers an area of 12 sq. km. (5 sq. mi.), with a history of 3,000 to 5,000 years. It is the largest area, the most remote and the most brilliant of cultural ancient city, ancient country and the ancient Shu cultural relics. Sanxingdui Relic Site is said to be “One of the Most Great Archeological Wonder”, presenting the Yangtze River is the same as the Yellow River, both belong to the part of the civilization of China, famed as “The Origin of Yangtze Civilization”.

The objects excavated in Sanxingdui are rare and precious humans’ legacy. Tourists who travel to Sichuan are curious about these relics. In the sea of spectacular historical relics, Sanxingdui Museum can be one of the most viewed objects with the scientific value. Among those precious treasures, there are many strange-shaped bronze statues. Each one has its special features, different facial expressions and different head decorations. In particular, their artistic exaggeration, majesty, refinement and execution seem to say the unknown words of ancient civilization, which beyond time and space.

Here is the an ornate bronze holy tree. The tree is 4 m. (13 ft.) tall, ranking the second to none ancient Shu secret treasure. Others like the shining golden cane, some jade with various patterns, etc., all the valuable treasures that people have never seen before. Now they are all well-preserved in the pageantry exhibition halls, showing that the government is aware the importance to protect our ancestors’ great artworks.

Outside of Sanxingdui Museum, there are pools, collections of stones and trees. The museums inside are modernized, however outside there is a a big garden. For tourists, it has an excellent restaurant with good facilities. There is also a memento shop, where tourists can bring back some gifts for friends.

After seeing this, you should definitely visit Jinsha Museum in Chengdu. Jinsha Museum is also one of the great museums in Sichuan based on the the culture of ancient Shu. Some people believed Jinsha Museum probably the site where the Sanxingdui people moved for some reasons leaving this area for good habitation.
