Health Alert – U.S. Embassy Beijing, People's Republic of China (March 17, 2020)
Location: People’s Republic of China
Event: There is an ongoing outbreak of Coronavirus (COVID-19) first identified in Wuhan, China. The global public health threat posed by COVID-19 is high, with more
than 80,000 reported cases worldwide.
The government of PRC has implemented enhanced screening and quarantine measures to reduce the spread of COVID-19. Travelers should be prepared for travel restrictions to be put into effect with little or no advance notice.
State/local government actions: Effective immediately, most major metropolitan areas in China will require travelers entering China from nearly all foreign destinations, including the United States, to undergo screening for COVID-19 and perform 14 days of monitored quarantine, either in their residence or in a Chinese facility, with the quarantine location determined based on their risk of COVID-19 infection. In some locations, travelers may be expected to pay for their accommodations while undergoing quarantine.
Travelers may not have control over the amenities offered at quarantine locations. These quarantine measures are not consistent across China and submitting to them is mandatory. U.S. citizens may also be required to install and use location tracking software on their phones in order to access public spaces and some businesses. Some private hospitals may refuse admittance to travelers who have been in the United States 14 days prior to entering China.

How to protect yourself from Covid-19
Follow the instructions from WHO and CDC, do not travel if there is no essence of that. Other preventions are the same ones we mention all the time:
- Wash your hands with soap and water at least 20 seconds.
- If you don't have soap and water, use the hand sanitizer with a high percentage of alcohol in it (at least 60% alcohol)
- Do not touch your face (eyes, nose, and mouth)
- Avoid group gathering, and you should have distance with people at least 6 feet.
- To the extent possible, avoid touching high-touch surfaces in public places – elevator buttons, door handles, handrails, handshaking with people, etc. Use a tissue or your sleeve to cover your hand or finger if you must touch something.
If you have any symptoms
We all know the symptoms but let's say again:
- Fever
- Cough
- Shortness of Breath
The symptom can appear 2-14 days.
If you are feeling sick
If you have any of these symptoms and you have traveled in the high infected regions such as China, South Korea, Italy or Iran, if you have close contact with an infected person, you should:
- Stay at home and call a doctor to tell your symptoms
- Do not go in public or clinic or ambulance, you may get to risk other people
- Very important- do not go to work, or use a public transport
- Separate yourself from the other people in the family, and you should stay in one room and use a specific bathroom if it is possible
- Wear a mask to protect the others from the Coronavirus
- Cover your mouth and your nose if you are sneezing or coughing, and use a tissue, and after using the tissue throw it right away in a trash can
- Monitor your condition, and if you feel worse you should call 911 or your doctor
