Tibet Vehicles Rental

Renting a vehicle in Tibet is one of the best ways to explore the region’s vast and remote landscapes. Since public transportation is limited, having your own vehicle offers flexibility and access to sites that might otherwise be difficult to reach.

How to Rent a Car in Tibet

Due to restrictions on foreigners driving in Tibet, renting a self-drive car is not possible. Instead, you will need to rent a car with a licensed local driver, which is often arranged through travel agencies. Most agencies in Tibet will provide not only a driver but also help with permits, especially if you plan to visit restricted areas.

Here’s a step-by-step guide:

  1. Contact a Local Travel Agency: You’ll need to book your car rental through a local agency that arranges the necessary permits.
  2. Choose Your Vehicle and Route: Decide on your preferred vehicle and the locations you want to visit. Most agencies offer a variety of tours or customizable itineraries.
  3. Submit Required Documents: For foreign travelers, the agency will help with the necessary travel permits, including your Tibet Travel Permit and other region-specific permits.
  4. Confirm Your Booking: Once everything is confirmed, your driver will pick you up at the airport or your hotel at the agreed time.
