Shaanxi Province
Shaanxi also shortened as Shan or Qin is a province located in the northwestern part of China. It is long known as one of the cradles for Chinese civilization due to its long history and splendid culture. It borders Shanxi, Henan in the east, connects Ningxia, Gansu in the west, and ties Sichuan, Chongqing, Hubei in the south and Inner Mongolia in the north belonging to the the middle reaches of the Yellow River and the upper reaches of Yangtze River.
Shaanxi covers an area of 205,800 sq.m with a population of 37,327,378 the largest proportion of which is distributed in Xi’an, the capital city of Shaanxi. It currently consists of nine prefecture-level cities and one sub-provincial city among which the historical cities, Xi’an, Yan’an, Hanyang, Xianyang are particularly famous. Shaanxi enjoys a continental monsoon climate with four distinct seasons.
Taibai Mountain is the highest mountain in Shaanxi Province which stands 3,767 meters above sea level and major rivers like Han River (61,959 sq.km), Yan River (7,687 sq.km), Jing River (45421 sq.km) and Wei River ( 62440 sq.m) runs through this province. At present, the already ascertained mineral resources amount to 92 which include 5 kinds of energy resources, 3 kinds of water and gas resources, 27 kinds of metallic ores and 57 non-metallic ores.
As one of the birthplaces of Chinese civilization, Shaanxi played an important part in political, economic and cultural aspects in ancient China with Xi’an the starting point of the Silk Road as its capital city. The brilliant culture and time-honored history of this province are fully manifested in a number of famous tourist attractions. There is the world-renowned Mausoleum of Emperor Qinshihuang and his Terra Cotta Warriors located not far from the historically important Li Mountain in Xi’an, along with the imperial bathing pool, Huaqing Hot Spring at the foot of the mountain. Other famous attractions include Bell Tower, and Drum Tower, Shaanxi History Museum, Great Mosque, Giant and Small Wild Goose Pagoda and the grand Famen Temple and the precious Banpo site.
