Beijing Capital International Airport (BCIA), known as “China Gateway”, is the #1 international airport in China. It is China’s largest and busiest international aviation hub, with the most advanced facilities in the world. BCIA is 26 km. (16 mi.) northeast of Beijing city. As the capital’s airport, it is China’s window for communication and exchange with the outside world.

BCIA is the first airport in the Asia and Pacific region to have three terminals, three runways, and two towers. The airport’s slogan is “Advance the Chinese service, develop an international hub”. Currently, more than 5,000 scheduled flights are available to 88 cities in China and 69 cities abroad. There are 3 Terminals in total. A large number of domestic flights operate from T1. T2 is operated for international and domestic flights, and T3 opened in 2008 to prepare for the Beijing Olympic Games. 

T3 is designed by Sir Norman Foster, in the shape of a Chinese dragon. Terminals 1 and 2 are linked by a public walkway that takes about 10 – 15 minutes to traverse. Shuttle buses connect all the three terminals. 

As one of the most advanced airports in China, Beijing Airport has a large six-story parking garage, and short-term parking is available in front of the terminal buildings.

Beijing Airport Service

As the biggest and busiest airport in China, Beijing Capital International Airport transports more than 55 million passengers annually with the best services and facilities.

If you need assistance, the airport Hotline is 96158. Internet access is available in the business center in T1 and T2.

Terminal 3 has free WiFi access throughout. There are many convenience stores, restaurants, book stores and clothing stores in the airport. Currency

Exchange service is available 24 hours a day. One booth is located in T1, at section 1F of the Domestic Arrivals Hall. Passengers can exchange ¥CNY, $USD, €EUR, ¥JPY, HKD. In T2, there are many spots for currency exchange.

Beijing Capital International Airport Acess

Perhaps the quickest way to or from Beijing Capital International Airport is the dedicated light rail line known as the Bejing Capital Airport Express Train. It runs from the airport’s T2 and T3 terminals to Sanyuanqiao and Dongzhimen in the downtown area.

It offers connections to subway line 10 at the former stop, and lines 2 and 13 at the latter stop. Travel time is about 25 minutes to/from Sanyuanqiao, and the fare is 25 RMB. You can also take an airport bus to the Shunyi District and other downtown locations.

To get to the airport from the city, buses leave from the International Hotel at No. 9 Jiangguo Mennei Street, and from the Aviation Office at No. 15 Xichang’an Street. The bus fare runs about 20 RMB, and travel time is an hour or more.

Taxis take about 45 minutes to reach the city, and it could be twice that at rush hour. The fare is around 170 RMB (28 USD). Beijing Capital International Airport provides taxi stands at the airport. 

They are located as follows: in T1, outside Gates 1 to 5 on the arrivals level (1st floor); in T2, outside Gates 5 to 9 on the arrivals level. For T3, please refer to the signs in the terminal building. Please only take taxis with the official certification. Transportation is very convenient at airports in China.

Beijing Airport Restaurants And Cafés

Many restaurants and cafes are available for tourists in BCIA. In the Beijing Airport Entertainment Center, there is a tea house for relaxing.

One Chinese fast food restaurant called Kaizaiyuntun, and many cafes, such as Coolava Coffee, Queen’s Coffee, and Starbucks are here for your enjoyment.

KFC is available as one option for western fast food. An Hourly Lounge is located in T1, on the west side of Gate No. 8’s entrance, on the second floor.
