Yuanyang Hani Terraced Fields are famous scenic spots and natural wonders located in the south of Ailao Mountain, Yuanyang County in Yunnan Province. They are beautiful terraced fields featured by their great combination of natural landform and masterpiece of the local Hani People.

Made up of several scenic area, the Yuanyang Hani Terraced Fields form marvelous and grand landscapes surrounded by clouds, being regarded as a rare world natural wonder and an ideal place for sightseeing and photography.

The history of the Yuanyang Hani Terraced Fields can be dated back to thousands of years ago when they were the home land for the Hni People and they have been a well known scenic spots since 1980s. The terraced fields together with the Ailao Mountain have witnessed Hani people’s stuggling and growing with the nature like a huge non- literal historical books.

It is known that Yuanyang County is famous for its colorful ethnic custom, national culture and wonderful festivals and the terraced fields are just like real land art and sculpture, which add enchantment for this area.

When you come here, your first sight will surely be caught by the lofty and precipitous Ailao Mountain towering 3,165 m. (10,384 ft.) high above the sea level with the Yuanyang Hani Terraced Fields on the hillside as great decoration. Seen from a far distance, the layers upon layers of terraced fields looks like grand pictures created by a master. All these fields are great work of the local Hani people and supply water, food, wood and other resources for them, being regarded as a sustainable ecological system of the county.

This is wonderland for photographers and the most popular scenic spots in the Yuanyang Hani Terraced Fields include: Bada, Duoyishu, Longshuba, Mengpin scenic area and so on. Duoyishu is the most beautiful natural landscape and it is the best place to take the picture of the sunrise. Bada is the biggest attraction in terms of acreage and you can have the best sunset scenery here.

Mengpin is the best place to have a bird’s view of the Yuanyang Terraced Fields. This is a unpolluted lands with rare natural landscape which can seldom be found in other places. If you are interested in photographing, this attraction is surely your good choice.

The Yunyang county is also featured by its local ethnic custom with Hani, Yao, Miao, Dai, Zhuang and Yi people living here. If you come here, you will surely be impressed by its colorful dressing, lifestyle, dancing and singing. This is a great place to savor the pure culture and the great natural wonder of the terraced fields.

No entrance fee is required and you can take shift and night buses from Kunming Bus station to Yuanyang directly.
