Lhasa Train Schedule and price
Trains basic information and timetable
At present, there are only two railways built in Tibet, the Qinghai-Tibet railway and the Lhasa-Shigatse railway. The opening of the Qinghai-Tibet Railway in 2006, from Xining in Qinghai province to Lhasa in Tibet, is of great significance for travelers to Tibet. The Lhasa-Shigatse Railway, officially opened in 2014, is an extension of the Qinghai-Tibet Railway, referring to the railway from Lhasa Station to Shigatse Station.
Currently, there are Tibet trains running from Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Chengdu, Chongqing, Lanzhou, Xining to Lhasa frequently. The below time table and tickets' price use as of June 15 2020 will help you plan your trip to Tibet. Besides, we have also included the train schedule between Lhasa and Shigatse for reference.
The China Railway official website only offers a Chinese version. Hence, you may check the Trip. com to check the most updated and reservation information. You are required to provide the passport details to book the tickets by using your credit card.

Train tickets price and booking details
Right now there are 3 types of tickets on the trains to/from Lhasa: soft-sleeper, hard-sleeper, and hard-seat. The sleeper tickets cost is based on the berth location, and the cost in the below table is based on the cheapest upper berth option. Please kindly note that due to the high demand, the final train ticket price is generally higher than the official price.
Right now, train tickets are only available to purchase 30 days in advance, either at the ticket window of any Chinese railway station or online by providing your valid passport info. For example, on June 10th 2020, you can only book the tickets between June 10th to July 09th, 2020. However, please kindly note that the foreign passport holders are required to show their Tibet entry permit to book the train tickets to Tibet at the ticket window.
During the peak season from the end-June to early October, it is really difficult to obtain tickets for the soft-sleeper on the trains to Tibet, due to the high demand and limited ticket availability. If you are not able to obtain the soft-sleepers in peak season, we WindhorseTour can help to book through the ticket dealers, however, there will be an additional cost at 300-500 CNY per ticket which is paid commission to the ticket dealers. In addition, for those types of tickets, it’s required to reserve them at least 20-45 days prior to the train’s departure date. One important note that WindhorseTour DO NOt add any profit on the Tibet train tickets booking, and do not provide the single train tickets booking.
