Kunming Changshui International Airport

Located at 24 km. (15 mi.) northeast of the city center, Kunming Changshui International Airport, also known as the New Kunming Airport, is the primary Kunming Airport when you travel to Yunnan. As a replacement of the Kunming Wujiaba International Airport, Kunming Changshui International Airport is a hub when you travel to China to explore landscapes like Shangri-la.

Airport Information

Kunming Changshui International Airport came into operation on June 18th, 2012, which is the second largest terminal building in China. There are two terminals in this Kunming airport. Terminal 2 is still under construction and is expected to be completed before 2020. 

Terminal 1 has 3 have underground floors, as well as 3 floors above ground and it has 66 gates with jet bridges. Terminal 1 has 68 check-in counters, 30 auto check-in counters and 67 security channels.

The Kunming Changshui International Airport offers you flights both to domestic and oversea’s destinations. When you travel to China from this Kunming airport, you can book cheap tickets to big cities like Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou and Chengdu. When you go to international cities, you can also get flights from this airport. Right now, as only Terminal 1 can be used, all flights are depart and arrive at this terminal.

Airport Services 

The friendly staff in Kunming Changshui International Airport would impress you deeply when you travel to Yunnan, they are so warm to help you. You can exchange your currency into RMB at any money exchange counters, which can help you a lot. The waiting areas are equipped with comfy chairs and TVs, which enable you to have a nice break.

All toilets are clean and there are separate smoking area. By the way, the transportation system around the airport is excellent. Shuttle buses and taxis ensure you go smoothly between the airport and anywhere in Kunming. The terminus of metro 6 is the Kunming Changshui International Airport, which make your travel more convenient.

There are car rental service centers in and out of the airport, which offer you cars at a relatively low price. If the waiting time is a bit long, you can walk around in shops in the airport, where you can find lots of Yunnan specialties like handcrafts. The wi-fi in the airport is FREE, but you have to get the password from an airport staff.

Airport Restaurants and Cafes 

Fast food is provided in nearly every airport, and you can find it easily in Kunming Changshui International Airport when you travel to China. If you want to eat the authentic Yunnan food, such as Erkuai and “over the bridge” noodles, you can choose a Chinese restaurant in the airport.

Cafes in the airport offer you coffee, tea and some other beverages. You can read magazines or listen to music when you spend you time in one cafe with aromatic coffee or tea.
