4 days Jiuzhaigou & Huanglong Tour from Chengdu by Car
This 4 day Jiuzhaigou Huanglong tour from Chengdu by car includes Dujiangyan or Wolong Panda Base, Jiuzhaigou National Park, Huanglong’s Five-Color Ponds, and scenic mountain driving with private transport.
Itinerary
This Jiuzhaigou Huanglong tour from Chengdu by car is designed for travelers who prefer private transportation, flexible pacing, and scenic road travel instead of trains or public buses. Travel by comfortable private vehicle through the Minjiang River valley, stopping at Dujiangyan Panda Base or Wolong Panda Base before continuing north to Jiuzhaigou.
Spend a full day exploring Jiuzhaigou National Park, known for its turquoise lakes and waterfalls. Visit Huanglong National Park to see its colorful mineral terraces and Five-Color Ponds. On the return journey, explore the Dujiangyan Irrigation System, a UNESCO World Heritage site built over 2,000 years ago.
This 4 day private tour is ideal for families, photographers, and travelers who want comfort and flexibility while visiting Jiuzhaigou.
Your driver picks you up in the morning. First stop is the panda base - either Dujiangyan (closer to the highway) or Wolong (deeper in the mountains). You'll get there during feeding time when the pandas are eating and playing. With luck, you'll see some baby pandas too.
After visiting the pandas, you start the drive to Jiuzhaigou through the mountains. The road follows the Minjiang River valley with views of gorges, traditional Qiang villages, and Tibetan prayer flags. You pass through Wenchuan (site of the 2008 earthquake), Maoxian, and the old town of Songpan. Your driver stops for photos and bathroom breaks.
You arrive in Jiuzhaigou town by evening and check into your hotel.
Overnight near Jiuzhaigou.
You spend the full day exploring Jiuzhaigou Valley. The park is famous for its bright turquoise lakes and waterfalls. Five Flower Lake is the most photographed spot - the water actually looks that blue in person.
The park has three valleys branching off in a Y-shape. You take shuttle buses between areas and walk on wooden boardwalks. Shuzheng Valley has tiered lakes and small waterfalls. Rize Valley has the iconic spots: Five Flower Lake, Pearl Shoal Waterfall, and Mirror Lake. Zechawa Valley goes up to Long Lake (the biggest) and Five-Color Pond.
Your guide plans the route to avoid the biggest crowds and catch good light for photos.
There's a Tibetan song and dance show available in the evening if you want (extra cost).
Overnight near Jiuzhaigou.
After breakfast you drive about 2.5 hours to Huanglong. This park looks completely different - instead of deep lakes, you get thousands of small yellow and blue pools cascading down the mountain like terraces.
You ride the cable car up to save energy, then walk down past the colorful pools. The highlight is Five-Color Pond at the top. The altitude here is around 3,600 meters so you might feel a bit short of breath, but the path is easy. Walking down takes 3-4 hours through the pools and forest.
In the afternoon you drive partway back and stay overnight in Songpan or Maoxian.
This morning you drive back toward Chengdu with a stop at the Dujiangyan Irrigation System. Built over 2,000 years ago and still working today, it's pretty impressive when you see how they split the river and control flooding without any concrete or modern technology.
You'll also visit Erwang Temple, dedicated to the father and son who designed the system. The temple sits on a hillside with good views over the channels below.
After the visit, continue to Chengdu. Your driver drops you at your hotel or the airport. Best to book flights after 7pm to allow enough time.

Is it possible ?
Thank you !
Hi Tatiana,
Thank you for your inquiry! I just sent you a email with updated information about visit to Jiuzhaigou. As Jiuzhaigou has been opened partially to tourists and there are only 2,000 tickets available in every day. And with regrets to share that the entrance tickets from May 1st to May 14th, 2018 are all sold out. In this case, I would suggest you may consider postponing your time to Jiuzhaigou. Please kindly advise, then we can provide you some further assistance.
I am looking forward to hearing from you soon.
Best regards,
Victoria
