3 days Jiuzhaigou & Huanglong Tour by Train
Itinerary
In the morning, head to Chengdu Eastern Train Station on your own to board the high-speed train from Chengdu to Jiuzhaigou (07:30-08:59, 1h29m). Upon arrival at Zhenjiangguan train station, you will be picked up and transferred to Huanglong, which is about a 2-hour drive. This World Natural Heritage Site Huanglong National Park, situated at an elevation of approximately 3,000 meters (9,840 ft), is renowned for its vibrant lakes, stunning landscapes, and serene Buddhist monasteries. The park features a plethora of colorful ponds in shades of yellow, blue, green, and brown, scattered amidst lush forests. You have the option to explore the park either on foot or via cable car, allowing for a 3 to 5-hour experience. Afterward, you'll be transferred to your hotel just outside Jiuzhaigou Park, rest and prepare for the next day.
Please note that the cable car at Huanglong Park is not operational from December 16th to the end of March during the winter season. If you wish to visit Huanglong during this period, be prepared for a walk up and down, which may be challenging for some individuals. Alternatively, you can choose to visit Munigou scenic park for easier access.
Today, you will spend a full day exploring Jiuzhaigou, China's premier national park, nestled between the Sichuan Basin and the Qinghai-Tibetan Plateau. The park is renowned for its crystal-clear lakes, enchanting waterfalls, pristine forests, endangered flora and fauna, and charming Tibetan villages. The serene beauty of this natural wonder will transport you away from your daily concerns, inviting you to fully immerse yourself in its breathtaking scenery. Jiuzhaigou Valley, aptly named "Nine Village Valley" due to the presence of nine Tibetan villages within the park, provides a window into the distinctive culture of the local Tibetan-Qiang minority.
You have the option to explore the park by sightseeing bus and on foot. Typically, you will take the sightseeing bus to Longhai (Long Lake), walk to Wucaichi (Five-colored Pond), and return to the Nuorilang transit station for lunch. After lunch, take the bus to Zhujianhai (Bamboo Arrow Lake), then hike to Panda Lake and Wuhuahai (Five Flower Lake), and take the bus to Pearl Shoal Waterfall, one of the highlights of Jiuzhaigou. Afterwards, return to Luorilang and along the way, you will see Mirror Lake. After Luorilang, you will start traveling back to the entrance, where you can hop on and off to visit more sites such as Rhino Lake, Tiger Lake, Shuzheng Waterfall & Lakes, etc.
End your Jiuzhaigou visit by returning to your hotel. Tonight, you might enjoy a cultural show at Jiuzhaigou (optional, fees apply).
After breakfast, drive to Zhenjiangguan train station (about 2.5 hours drive) for the train return to Chengdu (C6378, 12:51-14:27, 1h36m), concluding your Jiuzhaigou tour.
