Mount Li

Mount Li is located in northwest of Xi’an, Shaanxi Province. It is an offset of Qinling Mountain with its highest peak standing 1,256 m. (4,121 ft.) above the sea level.

Literally, Li means a black steed in Chinese and Mount Li is so named because it looks very much like a black horse with lush and green trees growing on it in the distance.

Due to its winding and steep mountain paths, Mount Li provides a good choice for tourists who is fond of hiking. But if you are not interesting in climbing up the mountain, you can also choose to ride a cable car up to its top.

While standing on the mountain, you can get a panoramic view of its surrounding scenery as well as the the whole ancient historical city. At sunset, Mount Li shines like a star with the evening sunlight shrouding it.

Mount Li is not only famous for its gorgeous scenery but also for the surrounding tourist attractions and historical significance.

Reaching half way of the mountain, you will see a pavilion which is named Bingjian Pavilion (literally means stern advice backed up by fore) for its historical association with Xi’an incident. Keep climbing on, you come to Sunset Pavilion from which you’ll see the famous Hua Qing Hot Spring right under your feet.

If you keep going on, you will also find Laojun Temple (Laojun refers to Laozi, the founder of Taoism) where the jade statue of Laozi was displayed, and Laomu Temple which is built in memory of the goddess Nüwa, creator of mankind, who is said to have had the wall of heaven repaired.

Then there is the well known Beacon Tower which always automatically reminds Chinese people of the shameful historical incident – Feng Huo Xi Zhu Hou during Western Zhou Dynasty.

Besides, there is also a unique urn temple which is so named for the surrounding urn-shaped rocks made by water rushing down continuously.

The single-arch stone bridge built in Tang Dynasty known as Yuxian Bridge is also worth a visit to see. Most important of all, the world renowned tourist attraction, the mausoleum of Emperor Qin Shihuang and his Terracotta Warriors are also located not far from Mount Li.
