Welcome to Zhangjiajie. Upon arrival at the airport or train station, you will be met by your local driver and transferred to Wulingyuan Town, located close to the entrance of Zhangjiajie National Forest Park. After checking in to your hotel, the rest of the day is kept easy and flexible. You may choose to rest after your journey, take a short walk around the town, or enjoy a relaxed dinner nearby. Overnight in Wulingyuan.
Today you begin exploring the spectacular landscapes that make Zhangjiajie famous. Start with Yuanjiajie Scenic Area, home to towering sandstone pillars rising dramatically from the forest below. Access is usually by the Bailong Elevator, helping you save energy while reaching the best viewpoints.
You then continue to Yangjiajie Scenic Area, a quieter section of the park with rugged scenery and fewer visitors. Depending on your pace, you may enjoy short walks between viewpoints or focus on the highlights. Later, visit Huangshizhai, reached by cable car, offering wide panoramic views over the surrounding peaks. Return to Wulingyuan for overnight.
This day is designed to balance gentle walking with classic mountain scenery. Begin with a relaxed walk along Golden Whip Creek, one of the most pleasant areas in the park, following a clear stream beneath towering cliffs and lush vegetation.
Continue to the Ten-Mile Natural Gallery, where rock formations resemble natural sculptures. A sightseeing tram is available if you prefer less walking. In the afternoon, travel up to Tianzishan, known for its layered stone peaks and misty viewpoints. Cable cars and park shuttle buses are used to keep the day comfortable. Overnight in Wulingyuan.
After breakfast, transfer to the city area to visit Tianmen Mountain, one of the region’s most iconic attractions. Ascend by the scenic cable car and explore the mountaintop at a relaxed pace. Highlights include Tianmen Temple, sections of the Glass Skywalk and Ghost Valley Plank Road, and the impressive Tianmen Cave, also known as Heaven’s Gate. For guests who prefer less stair climbing, shuttle transport can be arranged where possible.
Later, drive to enjoy a visit to 72 Qilou (72 Strange Buildings), a lively area showcasing traditional Tujia-style architecture, local snacks, and evening lights. In the afternoon, drive onward to Furong Ancient Town. Overnight in Furong.
This morning is spent exploring Furong Ancient Town, a charming cliffside town built around a cascading waterfall. You’ll have time to stroll through stone-paved streets, admire traditional wooden houses, and enjoy views of the waterfall from different angles. Photography lovers may linger near the river, while others may prefer a relaxed walk and café stop.
After lunch, continue by road to Fenghuang Ancient Town, beautifully set along the Tuojiang River. After checking in to your hotel, the evening is free to explore the riverside lanes and enjoy the old town’s atmosphere, especially charming after sunset. Overnight in Fenghuang.
Today you enjoy a relaxed exploration of Fenghuang Ancient Town, known for its riverside scenery and well-preserved historic streets. After breakfast, take a scenic boat ride along the Tuojiang River, offering a charming view of traditional wooden houses, stone bridges, and daily life along the water.
After the boat ride, your guide will lead a walking tour through the old town, visiting highlights such as the Jumping Rock Bridge, Rainbow Bridge, Palace of Longevity, Wanming Pagoda, East Gate Tower, and the Ancient Town Museum. If time allows, the visit can be adjusted based on your interests, with optional stops at historic residences, ancestral halls, or quieter lanes.
Fenghuang is home to several ethnic communities, including the Tujia, Miao, and Bai. If your visit coincides with a local festival, you may have the chance to see traditional costumes, music, and dance, adding cultural insight to your experience.
In the late afternoon, transfer to Fenghuang train station or airport for your onward journey, marking the end of your WindhorseTour service. Optional trip extensions to other destinations in China can be arranged upon request.
