9 days Guizhou Miao Dong Village tour

Upon your arrival at the airport or railway station of Guiyang, the capital of Guizhou province, be greeted and assisted by your local guide to the hotel. Located in the southwest of China, Guizhou province is reputed for its colorful culture represented by various ethnic groups. In the next 9 days, you will visit several ethnic villages to explore the unique culture and customs of different minorities in China.

After a short break in your hotel, if time permit, drive to the Qingyan Ancient Town in the southern countryside of Guiyang city. Enjoying a history of over 600 hundred years, this town was first built for transferring military messages and housing a standing army. Thus all the buildings were constructed completely of stone. Have a leisurely afternoon by roaming this historical and cultural town. See lots of relics are well preserved as an original architectural style. Afterwards, drive back to your hotel for retire.

Start today by heading to the Yunfeng Village, which is a famous settlement of the Tunbao people in China. According to the historical record, Tunbao people is a special group in the Han Nationality, and they still keep most of the cultural traditions of the Ming Dynasty. During your visit, watch a traditional Dixi Opera, which is regarded as an integral part of Tunpu culture. Afterward, spend the rest of the day to explore some other nearby ancient Han nationality village. Then return to Guiyang for the evening.

Drive about 1.5 hours to Shuitouzhai, a famous Buyi ethnic village in Guizhou province. Upon your arrival, take a stroll along the Qinglong River, where you will see several small villages scattering on both banks. Visit some local villagers and be impressed by their unspoiled lifestyle. Most of the villager are farmers or craft men. Visit the traditional mill that is powered by manual, rice wine brewing house and Tofu workshops while roaming in these villages. Visit a tea plantation, learn about the process of making tea. Overnight at Guiyang.

Leave for Kaili, drive to Maliao, the starting point of your trekking route today. Upon arrival, spend 3.5 hours hiking from Maliao to Kaijue village. You will hike through the majestic Leigongshan Mountain. Make sure your camera is ready as your every stop is filled with scenery.

After arriving Kaijue, continue driving to Xijiang, the biggest Miao Village with over 1,000 families for a visit. As you explore the ethnic culture of  Miao minority in this village, do not forget to immerse yourself into the breathtaking scenery of the surrounding overlapping mountains, with terraced fields rising along the slopes to the clouds and the Baishui (White Water) River flowing through. This evening you will stay in a hotel of Xijiang.
 

After having breakfast in the hotel drive to visit Langde Miao village which includes 2 parts - Langde Xiazhai and Langde Shangzhai, where you can enjoy the picturesque natural views and the lifestyle of the ethnic Miao minority people by joining their local dancing and singing. Then hike from Langde to Jiaomeng by passing through several villages along the mountain road, enjoy the beautiful and pure countryside scenery. After arriving Jiaomeng, continue driving back to Kaili. Overnight at Kaili.

Drive to Rongjiang, the first stop is Shiqiao village, you can learn traditional papermaking from bark, head to Rongjiang, on the way stop at Gaoyao terrace and enjoy the amazing view. After arrival in Rongjiang, you will visit Dali Dong village. Overnight at Rongjiang.

This morning you will be driven to Basha Miao village. all the men here wear their hair in a bun, when the boys grow to 16 years of age, an “adult ceremony” will be held for them. The man adult of Basha Miao Village carries a hunting gun on his shoulder and a knife around his waist, making himself up like an ancient warrior.  After lunch, drive to visit Zhanli Dong village, Couples in Zhanli Dong village give birth to two children, one girl and one boy, virtually no two girls or two boys rearing in a family. There is a mystical secret that Huanhua herb has the ability to help Dong people propagate one girl and one boy in a family. It is said that if there is a boy in the family, the next child will be a girl after taking Huanha herd, vice versa. Then move on to Zhaoxing

After breakfast you will appreciate the beautiful terrace landscape, drive to visit Tang’an village, it is situated at a mountain slope and encircled by rice fields, green trees and hills.  It has been accepted jointly by China and Norway as an ecological museum of the Dong ethnic group. It is the only eco-museum of Dong Minority on the earth. This afternoon visit Zhaoxing Dong village,  the biggest Dong village in China. The village is divided into five natural sections. Each section has a clan and each clan has a drum-tower, a Wind-Rain-Bridge and a stage. 

Note: The terraced landscape is affected by factors such as irrigation, crop harvests, and weather. The scenery seen every month is very different.

In the morning drive to Congjiang railway station, from which you can take the bullet train to your next travel city  (such as Guilin, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Guiyang etc.) or drive back to Guiyang airport for your flight departure.
