It is a good news for the passengers that they can now travel between Chengdu to Hong Kong through the recently operated MTR Rail line.

Hong Kong has announced that the Guangzhou-Shenzhen-HK high-speed railway will be opened up for business on September 23rd. It is a new railway line that has recently built and connects 44 cities across Mainland China to reach Hong Kong directly via rail transit. It facilitates people to move and roam easily across 44 cities such as Shanghai, Shenzhen, Guangzhou, Guillin etc. without facing any transportation hassle or problem.

People, who live in Chengdu would be able to easily take a train from Chengdu to Guangzhou then also transfer onto the Guangzhou-Shenzhen-HK high-speed railway and then go directly to Hong Kong. It will take around 10 hours in total and cost 781 RMB.

How to Travel from Chengdu to Hong Kong?

Chengu  is a capital of Sichuan Province. Moreover, it is also called the home of giant Pandas, which is about 1800 kilometers from Hong Kong. It is a special administrative region in south China.

The train will take you to the desired location through Shenzhen & Guangzhou. Here we have come up with the three steps that you need to follow:

Step 1: Hong Kong – Shenzhen by MTR + Metro

First you need to travel from Hong Kong to Shenzhen by Hong Kong MTR Service and Metro in Shenzhen. Shenzhen North Station or Shenzhen Futian Station are main railway station, which are entitled to serve high speed train to or from Guangzhou from where you can ride bullet trains to Chengdu.

To take this train, you have to move to hong kong MTR EAST Line to Lok Ma Chau Station First. Then from the border walk into Futian Checkpoint station at Shenzhen side, from where you have to take metro line 4 to Shenzhen North Station to catch a high speed train to Guangzhou South, then a high speed train to Chengdu East.

Both the station namely  Shenzhen North and Shenzhen Futian Station have bullet train to Guangzhou South. As a comparison  Shenzhen North has more trains and can be easily reached by metro line 4 from Futian Checkpoint metro station. So if you are looking for the easy route then this can help you.

Step 2: Shenzhen – Guangzhou by High Speed Train

Shenzhen Futian Station also has bullet trains to or from Guangzhou South, so you can use Shenzhen North Station to move from from Guangzhou South. It can provide you high speed train.

Step 3: Guangzhou – Chengdu by High Speed Train

The newly developed High speed training which are linking Guangzhou and Chengdu is starting from January 25 of 2018. From the starting of February, there will be 9 daily D class high speed train available, which are linking Guangzhou South Station and Chengdu East Station.

The train will take 9.5-10.5 hours, and ticket fare is from CNY488.5 in a second class seat and CNY641 in a first class seat.

From Chengdu to Guangzhou: if you intended to move from Chengdu to Gaugzhou, you will still have 9 daily D class bullet trains, which leaves from Chengdu East Station and arrive at Guangzhou South Station

Hello,

We will be travelling to Hong kong this February 2019.

As a birthday gift to my aunt I would like to bring her to Chengdu to see the real Panda.

I wish to travel by train from HK to Chengdu since this will be cheaper.

I will be needing the complete guide on how to take the bullet train from HK to Chengdu and back from Chengdu and Hongkong. And do we need to bring the passport for immigration in China since we are a foreign national.

Hope you can help us.

Thanks.

In reply to Assistance travel from Hongkong to Chengdu by Frances Sy (not verified)

Dear Frances,

Thank you for your inquiry! This is Anita Fan from WindhorseTour.

I would advise you to take the bullet trains as below, which costs about 1600 CNY per person for return trips (Hong Kong - Guiyang North - Chengdu East - Guangzhou South - Hong Kong) if you book the ticket online or at the train station. As Spring Festival is in Febuary, the train tickets can be in high demand, please be advised to make booking well in advance.

Hong Kong - Guiyang North, G312, 12:00 - 17:37
Guiyang North - Chengdu East, G8664, 19:15 - 22:35
&
Chengdu East - Guangzhou South, D1801, 07:56 - 16:51
Guangzhou South - Hong Kong, G479, 18:06 - 18:58

For Hong Kong arrival and departure, you will need to go through security, customs, immigration at West Kowloon station, and show your passport. Customs and immigration will take place in an area of the station under China’s jurisdiction. Having completed both Hong Kong departure and mainland arrival clearance procedures at the West Kowloon station, you won’t have to go through customs and immigration again upon arrival in China.

When you arrive in Hong Kong from China mainland city, you will need to go through Hong Kong arrival clearance in the West Kowloon station.

Hope above information is clear and helpful.

Best Regards,
Anita
