8 days Group tour to Mt. Everest Base Camp
Itinerary
This tour begins in Lhasa - the historic, holy capital of Tibet. The tour not only visits the historic palaces and functioning monasteries, but will also pass through the breathtaking natural scenery of the Tibetan plateau, such as turquoise Yamdrok Lake, the mighty Nyenchen Kangsar glacier and past the great peaks of Himalayans, ending with the spectacular view of the world's highest mountain - Mt. Everest, a once in a lifetime view. Overall, the tour will definitely enrich your knowledge of the high plateau and rich culture of western Tibet.

Welcome to Tibet! Upon your arrival at Lhasa Gonggar Airport or Lhasa railway station, you will be greeted by your Tibetan guide, then your guide and driver will escort you to your hotel in the city. After checking into the hotel, you will have the remainder of the day to rest and acclimatize to the high altitude.

After breakfast, you will visit Potala Palace, it's the best known cultural landmark in Tibet. It is most renowned as the residence of the lineage of Dalai Lamas (Avalokiteshvara), though the massive structure contains a small world within itself. Later you will visit Jokhang temple, it is the most scared building in Tibetan Buddhism, located in the heart of Lhasa old town. It is the most sought after pilgrimage destination for all Tibetans. Lastly, you will walk through Barkhor Street, a popular Kora (holy walking path) which surrounds the Jokhang Temple. Always full of Tibetan faithful, visitors may find mingling with local pilgrims around the Barkhor Street uniquely engaging. It is also a popular shopping district where you can buy gifts for your family and friends. (B)=breakfast

After breakfast, you will visit Drepung monastery, it was the seat of the Government prior to Potala, also was once the world largest monastery in the history with 7,700 monks hailed from different monasteries all over Tibet. In the afternoon, you will visit Sera monastery for its famous debating monks go back and forth in their debates every day between 3 pm to 5 pm (except on Sunday). In the evening, your guide can take you to enjoy a local Tibetan performance (price is not included).

Drive from Lhasa to Shigatse by visiting Yamdrok Lake, Karola Glacier, Gyantse Kumbum. Yamdrok Lake is one of the 3 holiest lakes in Tibet and the easiest one to reach from Lhasa. The scenery on the way to Yamdrok Lake is fantastic - the road winds through snow-capped mountains and drives along the lake for about half an hour, during which you can get out of the car to go down to touch the blue water and take photographs. A short stop at Karola pass to overlooks Mt. Nyenchen Kangsar glacier. Gyantse Kumbum is one of the most stunning architectural wonders in Tibet. A Kumbum is a type of Tibetan chapel, and Gyantse's boasts multiple levels and 108 small chapel rooms.

Drive from Shigatse to Everest Base Camp, you will pass two mountain passes - Gyatsola [5,200 m] and Gawula pass [5,250 m], there you will have a chance to get out of your car to enjoy the view and take pictures of these majestic wonders. At Gawula pass, you will see the spectacular Himalayan Range and the glorious peaks of Mt. Makalu [8,463 m], Mt. Lhotse [8,516 m], Mt. Everest[8,844 m], Mt. Cho Oyu [8,201 m] and Mt. Shishapama [8,020 m] (from left to right in your view at the pass). Arrive EBC to enjoy the splendid sunset if weather permits. Rongbuk Monasteryis the highest monastery in Tibet and is functioning with both monks and nuns. You can visit and see the workings of the monastery.
Note: It is cold and windy in the valley, so we recommend taking a sleeping bag with you. Also, food options are scarce, so be sure to prepare for providing your own meals at Rongbuk.

If you did not go to see the sunset at E.B.C the day before, rise early on the morning of day 6 to catch the magnificent sunrise. Afterward, the drive will go all the way to Shigatse.
After breakfast, you will visit Tashilunpo monastery. It is one of the six prominent yellow hat sect monasteries and is the seat of the Panchen Lama lineage. There is a panoramic view of the whole monastery from the entrance, as well as a massive Jamba Buddha Statue. Afternoon drive back to Lhasa along the Northern Friendship Highway, with marvelous landscapes and scenery along the Brahmaputra River continuing all the way back to Lhasa.

We hate to see you go, but this is the end of your trip. Your guide and driver will escort you at the airport or train station based on your departure information, which concludes the tour.

Hi Rene,
Thanks for the comments.

Wish you have a pleasant day!

I will be a single traveler from the US.
I am 63 and have Type 1 diabetes, so I have certain needs. Are there any issues carrying insulins (2 different types), syringes and blood testing equipment (lancets, blood test strips, meter)? I also need to have carbohydrates with me at all times. Am I able to carry these with me? Are there any restrictions I need to be aware of, any problems with carrying any meds I need to take? I take 8/9 insulin shots/day.
Also, please send me information I need to be able to travel to Tibet. I have a passport but do I need any special visas or medical shots in order to visit your country?
All the information you can send will be greatly appreciated.

Hi Steve,
Thanks for contacting us. We advise the people with diabetes do not travel to Tibet, because that would be too risky. Anyhow, we suggest you consult your doctor before you make any decisions.
Hope above suggestion is helpful and please feel free to contact us for any further assistance.
Cheers,
Murphy
