Samye Monastery, with its unimaginable beauty, is one of the main scenic spots along the Yarlung River Scenic Area. Construction of Samye started in 762 AD and was completed in 779 AD. Located on the north bank of the Yarlung Tsangpo River of Zharang County, Samye covers an area of more than 4,900 sq. m. (52,743 sq. ft.). Samye was the first monastery built for the purpose of promoting Buddhism in Tibet. Today, Samye Monastery is famous worldwide for its historical value, beautiful views, stunning architecture and it attracts large amounts of tourists every year.
