Ganden Monastery is the greatest and oldest of six Gelupa monasteries in Tibet. It is also called one of the "three principal monasteries". Located at the top of Wangbur Mountain, Ganden Monastery is 60 kilometers northeast of Lhasa. Ganden Monastery is in typical Tibetan style, it is three times as large as Potala Palace and contains more than 4,000 monks at its peak. The reputation of Ganden Monastery is not smaller than its size. What’s more, the extremely fabulous view on the top of Ganden Wangpo Hill make Ganden Monastery more attractive to travelers all over the world.
