In the morning, you will come to your first stop, Yuyuan Garden. A saying goes, if you do not visit Yu Garden, you have not been Shanghai. Yu garden as it is also called features classical Chinese landscape art, with fish filled ponds and wood framed pavilions.
Just next door to Yu Garden you will explore Shanghai Old Street also know as Miaoqian Dajie. Wonder along this ancient street, and feel like you are back in the Qing dynasty and early Republic of China. Taste the local Shanghai snacks that are popular here or grab a few souvenirs
Eat lunch on Shanghai's Old Street or just near by, before traveling by private car to China's best museum the Shanghai Museum. Spend as much time as you like, an afternoon will certainly not be enough time to catchup on 5,000 years of history but you will see all the best artifacts with the help of your local guide.
Next stop will be trendy Xintiandi, where you will feel the strong French influence of Shanghai. It's the only place in Shanghai where you can see complete Shikumen style architecture. This beautiful style of construction has lost popularity for modern high rise buildings, but you will be able to free walk and explore in the pedestrian only zone of Shanghai.
One of the last stops for this busy day is along the famous Huangpu River, to the top of the Pearl Oriental TV Tower. The third highest tower in Asia, stand upon the observation deck and view out at the marvelous surrounding buildings and endless maze that is modern Shanghai.
From the Pearl Tower you can easily walk to the Huangpu River where many visitors will choose to have dinner during a cruise. It is a great way to watch the sun set and see the city's famous night life take over. Ask your guide for a recommendation on which clubs to hit or help getting tickets to a marvelous Shanghai acrobatic show. When you have had enough, head back to your hotel for the night or watch the sun come rise.
