Today you will be arranged to visit Tian'anmen Square - the largest public square in the world and Forbidden City - magnificent imperial Palaces of Ming and Qing dynasties for almost 500 years, and then head to the Temple of Heaven, a place where the Emperors prayed for peace and harvest. After lunch, drive to visit Summer Palace, originally a royal garden and a temporary dwelling palace for emperors of Qing Dynasty. On the way back Fresh-water pearl market for a good bargain can not to be missed. In the evening enjoy the Kongfu show afer dinner. Overnight at Beijing.
Morning excursion to the most beautiful section of the Great Wall - the Mutianyu Great Wall. The hike takes about 2-3 hours. After lunch drive to visit Changling, one of the 13 Ming Tombs of the 13 emperors of the Ming Dynasty (1368 - 1644). Drive back to your hotel, rest on your own. Overnight at Beijing.
After breakfast, drive to Shichahai Area - the old part of Beijing, first you will have one-hour tour of a 300-year old courtyard. With the help of your English speaking tour guide, the housekeeper of the yard will give you a detailed explanation of the old courtyard (Siheyuan) - its history, its layout, its Fengshui, and its traditiona Chinese culture involved. Then have about 1.5 hour the richshaw tour driving through the narrow alleys (Hutong) to experience the real life of local Beijing residents.Two people share one rickshaw. Drop off at the Silver Ingot Bridge (Yinding Bridge) and walk along the 800-year old Yandai Xiejie (Tobacco Pipe Lean Street) to the Drum Torwer. Visit the big drum tower and have a great view of the surrounding hutongs and traditional courtyards. Afterwards head to the Olympic Green to have an outside look at the Bird's Nest and Water Cube. After lunch, transfer to Beijing airport for the flight to Xi'an. Upon arrival at Xi'an, to be met and transferred to your hotel. Overnight at Xi'an.
Today make an excursion to see the extraordinary 2,200-year-old Terracotta Warriors of China's first Emperor- Qin Shihuang, discovered in 1974 by farmers while digging a well. This archaeological excavation site is a stunning exhibit of more than 7,000 ancient life-size terracotta statues of soldiers, officers, horses, chariots, and other artifacts. After lunch, drive back to the city, visit the Great Mosque and have some free time to explore for some souvenirs or antiques in the Bazaar near the Mosque. In the evening after the local specialty - Dumpling Banquet as dinner, enjoy the splendid Tang Dynasty Music and Dance Show. Overnight at Xi'an.
Morning half day tour is arranged to visit Shanxi Provincial Historic Museum, the big Wild Goose Pagoda, and Xi'an City Wall (the best preserved in the world), afterwards have a wander on the famous Shuyuanmen Culture Street to appreciate the delicate traditional art crafts. After lunch, transfer to Xi'an Xianyang airport for the flight to Xining. Upon arrival at Xining, to be met and transferred to your hotel. Overnight at Xining.
Today you will make a day tour to Qinghai Lake. In the late afternoon or evening you board the overnight soft-sleeper train for your journey to Lhasa. The Cabins are pressurized and double glazed for the comfort of the passengers as it ascends into the high altitude of Tibet.
Note:You'd better prepare some take-away food for the overnight ride train, because meals sold on the train are not good enough for travelers.
Today you will see the beautiful Tibetan plateau with the nomads groups, Kekexili Ntature Reserve, ect. Arrival at Lhasa in the evening, Lhasa train station picking up and transfer to your hotel in Lhasa. Overnight at Lhasa.
Today is your first day of sightseeing on the high plateau, so we have purposely arranged only to visit Jokhang temple and Potala Palace. Jokhang temple is the most scared shrine in Tibet which was built in 7th century and located at the heart of old town in Lhasa, the circuit around it called Barkhor street, which is a good place to purchase souvenirs. Potala Palace is the worldwide known cardinal landmark of Tibet. The massive structure itself contains a small world within it. Mostly it is renowned as residence of the Dalai Lama lineages (Avalokiteshvara). Both of them are the focal points of pilgrims from entire Tibetan world, multitudinous pilgrims are circumambulating and prostrating in their strong faith. Overnight at Lhasa.
Today you will be arranged to visit Drepung, Sera monasteries and Summer Palace - Norbulingka palace. Both Drepung and Sera monasteries are Gelugpa (yellow hat) sect monastic colleges. Drepung monastery was the seat of the Government prior to Potala, it was once the world largest monastery in the history with 10,000 monks hailed from different monasteries all over Tibet. Sera monastery is famous for its Buddhism philosophical debate practice, the clapping sound and aggressive expression of the monks are well worth to see. Norbulingka is the summer palace of Dalai Lama, you can visit the residences of different lineages of the Dalai Lama. The park is crowded with picnickers and traditional activities during the Shoton (Yogurt festival) in August. Overnight at Lhasa.
Today make a day tour to Namtso Lake. Driving along Northern Tibetan grassland, distance view of the Nyenchen Thanglha snow mountain ranges, and pass the Nargen-la pass [5190m]. Namtso Lake is the sky lake which is one of the three most holy lakes in Tibet, also the highest salt lake. You can do a bit trekking at the lakeside. Afternoon drive back to Lhasa, on the way back, you will be arranged to visit one nomad family. Overnight at Lhasa.
Morning transfer to the airport for the flight to Chengdu -- Home of the Giant Panda. Meet and check into your hotel. Afternoon after rest a while at hotel, you will be arranged to visit Jinsha Site Museum which is a place for visitors to closely observe the excavation of archeological spot and a perfect place to learn the glorious Chinese culture of the ancient Shu Kingdom. Overnight at Chengdu.
Morning around 07:30-08:00 to be met at your hotel lobby and transferred to Chengdu Panda Breeding and Research Center, it takes about half an hour. You will catch pandas' feeding time, they are at their most active, both Adults and Babies. Later then watch the film at Panda Museum to know the panda daily life, Baby getting birth, ect. After lunch at downtown, transfer to Chengdu airport for the flight to Shanghai. To be met and transferred to your hotel. Free on your own. Overnight at Shanghai.
Today you will be arranged to visit Shanghai Museum, the first museum in China that meets international exhibition standard. It is in the possession of a collection of 123,000 cultural artifacts in 21 categories, mainly the exhibitions of painting, bronze, sculpture, ceramics, calligraphy, jade, Ming & Qing Dynasty furniture, coins, seals, and ethnic artwork. The bronze collection is said to be the best in world; then head to the Oriental Pearl TV Tower which is standing by the Huangpu River with a height of 468 meters, it is the highest TV Tower in Asia (up to the last floor to see Shanghai scenery), a new landmark of Shanghai in 21st century; Afterwards drive to visit Yu Garden at the Old Quarter. It was built by the Pan family in the Ming Dynasty. Now it has been restored and become one of the most popular tourist sights in Shanghai. In the evening arrange you to stroll along the Nanjing Road to reach the famous Bund area along the Huangpu River. Overnight at Shanghai.
One day free in Shanghai on your own. You may spend the day shopping or just walking around to get a better understanding of Shanghai.
After breakfast, transfer to the airport for your departure flight to the next destination.
Note: Shanghai has two airports: Hongqiao Airport (15 km west of the center of Shanghai) and Pudong Airport (30km southeast of Shanghai). Please make sure you go to the right one for departure.
