Get to Tibet by air – feel the height over 8848m
For travelers who are crazy to see the world, the fastest and most enjoyable mode of travel is flying. There is something to be said for going to Tibet by train - a romantic and economic way of travelling. But air travel is faster, more convenient and statistically safer than rail travel. I am not much of a plane spotter, but I like big, noisy machines, so any aircraft rocks actually.
Taking the plane to Tibet makes traveling efficient. Air travel can also give you a different travel experience. Just imagine you've booked a good seat at the window with a clear view under the wing - you don't get luckier than that. There is much to see outside: the clouds flying across the sky and the snowy mountains as you approach Lhasa. Just imagine you are flying over the highest mountain in the world, a height over 8848m (29,028.5 ft). You are passing over Mount Everest!
Book a preferred seat, enjoy a meal on the plane and within a few hours, you will land at Lhasa Gonggar Airport. The Lhasa Gonggar Airport is located in the Shannan prefecture of the Tibet Autonomous Region. It is one of the highest civilian airports in the world at an elevation of 3,570 metres (11,710 ft). The Lhasa Gonggar Airport is located in Gongga County, about 65 kilometers south of Lhasa city. Its runway, around 4000m (2.5 miles), is the longest in China, accommodating many types of aircrafts, large and small. Domestic airlines operate flights from Lhasa Gonggar airport to Beijing, Chengdu, Shanghai, Hong Kong, Chongqing, Xi'an, Xining, Kunming, Diding and Chamdo Region. One international airline connects Katmandu and Lhasa.
The flight from Chengdu - Shuangliu Int'l Airport (CTU) to Lhasa is a direct, nonstop flight. If you are interested in our Tibet tours, or want to fly to Tibet, just book a preferred tour.
